Finest kind, entirely superb
Officially this is the best novel I read in 2005. Unofficially, this is one of the best novels I've read in the last decade or so. At long last, the old man returns to England from India, to live, he believes, in a village where he won't be reminded of the painful loss of his wife or of their lives in India. The unraveling of this assumption is the story. For anyone with a penchant for Paul Scott's Raj Quartet, this would a tasty epilogue. Those who come Scott-less to Old
Filth
will be shown a very good time indeed.
