A brilliant classic horror thriller now on a great DVD!

Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is a very successful writer of romance and thriller novels, one snowy night he crashes his car and a lonely woman named Annie (Kathy Bates) rescues him and provides shelter for him. She happens to be Sheldon's biggest fan and would do anything to be with him as her wish has come true, even though she's a bit on the psychoctic side as she wants him to do a novel based on her wish-fulfillments and wants to keep him as her personal prisoner.

A twisted and brilliant modern horror thriller classic that is quite faithful to Stephen King's suspense novel and is adapted by William Goldman and directed by Rob Reiner. The film co-stars legendary Lauren Becall, this movie is one of the greatest cinematic horror and psychological thrillers ever! in fact, Ms. Bates got an oscar for best actress for the memorable role of Annie. This is a truly unforgettable movie with such disturbing moments like the sledgehammer sequence, great acting and dark atmosphere.

This Collector's Edition DVD contains excellent picture and sound with fine extras like two audio commentaries, 7 featurettes, teaser and trailer which makes this a true must own for fans of horror and thrillers cause this one is a winner all the way.

Excellent adaption of one of King's best

This movie tells the story of author Paul Sheldon after a car crash has shattered his legs and a retired nurse named Annie Wilkes takes him to her home to recover. Unfortunately, for Paul, the esteemed Miss Wilkes is crazy as a loon and it becomes obvious pretty quickly that he's a prisoner, not a patient or a guest. I don't want to give away much of the plot, but she coerces him into writing a new novel just for her. One that will resurrect a character that Annie loves but that Paul had killed in his latest book. Paul's struggles with Annie to survive, write the book, keep his sanity, and escape are what form the core of the story.

There have been so many mediocre to poor adaptations of Stephen King books that one tends to expect that any movie based on his work will be a waste of time. Misery is the rare exception that proves the rule because this is a taut, suspenseful movie. Kathy Bates won an Oscar for her portrayal of Annie Wilkes and she deserved it. Annie is truly insane and Bates nailed the transitions from the sweet and caring Annie to the psycho screamer with a hair trigger in a way that seemed so natural it's unlikely many actresses could have matched it. James Caan is equally good as the tortured Paul Sheldon even if his part is less compelling. Richard Farnsworth also has a nice supporting role in the movie as the town sheriff even if it is an addition to the book.

Misery is a riveting movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you squirm at the same time. As sadistic as this version of Annie is, the violence has actually been toned down from the book, but it's extremely intense all the same. This is not a gore splashed slasher film, but the tension between Annie and Paul is sky high and there is one scene, in particular, that is tough to watch. I don't recommend this for the faint of heart, but anyone else should dive in and enjoy one of the very best adaptations of the modern master of horror.

Misery one of KINGS best!!

Kathy Bates is a very colorful actress she has been in a lot of different movies in the pass decade.
This movies is one of her best, she plays a suicidal ex-nurse that loves
the Misery Novels.
James Caan is the author of the Misery novels and he just finished the latest Misery novel where he kills Misery off, the character in the novel.
When he writes a book he goes to a town out in nowhere and writes the book.
It just so happens to be the same town that kathy Bates character lives in, and on the way home James Caans character has a wreck and Kathy Bates saves him.
Come to find out the Misery has just begun...
A must see, I rate this movie a 9 from 1to10!!
