Fantastic Resource
I homeschool my two children, and this book, along with Hungry Planet, are among my best resources for teaching my kids economics, geography, and sociology. The families
portrait
s are fascinating, and by the end of the book, you find yourself wanting to pop over for dinner with any or all of them! A picture IS worth a thousand words. Amazing!
i never get tired of flipping through this wonderous book
i have given this book to about 10 friends as gifts and all of them always are amazed and love the coffee table book just as much as i do! in fact i have bought the other books in Peter Menzel's series as well! Every time i open it and compare countries, i read something i didnt catch the first time. Even friends who have children as young as 6 tell me their kids like to study the pictures as well!

Life Changing!
This is one of the most meaningful books I've ever read. It changed the way that I think about the
world
, about my own belongings. Incredible and a must have.
A Beautiful and Important Work
The photographs that are highlighted in "
Material
World
" reveal people and their possessions, people from many countries, rich and poor. To see how many others in the world live gives us only a glimpse of our good fortune here in the U.S. A valuable and timely book.
Eye Opening
Ok..I must confess I have a lot of stuff. Its depressing but true. This was a revelation on Ones possessions around the
world
. How Western countries have loads of crap and lesser countries have less. This book has a prized spot in my bookcase. I think its a must for anyone taking a hard look at
material
possessions and how we either take them for granted or wish we had 1/10 of them.
