A real chef tells us how to do it!

I love this cookbook! I wanted a cookbook geared towards losing weight with REAL ingredients, and freshness, and EASE, and Pam Anderson does all of it! I figured that if the food is good enough for Pam, a professionally trained chef and author, who would not eat inferior food products just to loose weight, then it will be good enough for me! I was right! Its got every day EASE, with professional chef quality and taste!

Even her clean up is often easy - I love her "one pan in the oven" dishes for supper - with the meat, the veggies, all on one large cookie sheet, roasted in the oven! How easy, and delicious is that!

For breakfast, I love her smoothies (get that fruit in early in the day!) and for lunch I especially love her salad variations which are healthful and delicious. Since I do not like store bought salad dressings, I love her simple olive oil/balsamic vinegar adornments.

I agree, I may have to omit some of the between meal stuff to lose weight, but ANY cookbook has to be made adaptable to your particular weight loss and lifestyle needs. But if I need something, I know its there for me, on those days when I would arrive at the dinner table too famished to use self control.

I also love her reflections on why she over ate, and getting to the ROOT of what "ails" us - although her book is about cooking, and not some deep psychological inventory - it points us in the right direction - a wholistic look at our lives and weight issues, and also emphasises what we all know - gotta get moving.

I also own her "Perfect Recipes for Having Company," and its fabulous, too - and not all are incompatible with weight loss, either.

Pam, you done it again!

Great Recipes

Pam Anderson gives her account of her journey to losing weight. What has worked for her may not work for you, but she is very honest and straight forward about her struggle with weight. I'm giving her diet a try, so we'll just have to see.

Aside from her psychological advise, her recipes are wonderful. The entrees are great and even the snacks are great. I made the pita chips and just loved them. Also the flatbread pizzas were great. I made the one with arugula and procuitto. I would highly recommend the book, even just for the recipes.

Easy and healthy recipes

After losing weight, I was in search of healthy recipes to fit my new lifestyle. I stumbled across this book and boy am I glad I did! I have tried several of the recipes. They are delicious, easy to prepare, and the best thing is that I don't feel guilty after eating. I identify with her weight loss philosophy more than any other. I don't want to be on a regimented plan, I want to have options to where I don't have to deprive myself. There are so many of those options in this book. I love it!!!

A bit disappointed

I will not throw this one away, there are some good recipes. But I think it will end up being more of a dust collector. She takes one recipe and then offers several variations on the main recipe. Some of the variations take up more than a page worth of different ideas. Usually the variations are ideas that I could have thought of my own. Some of them do help to spark my own thought process or cravings for other things. So I haven't counted the real number of recipes because only the main recipes excluding the variations should be counted. Therefore, it doesn't seem like there are nearly as many recipes as there are in most recipe books.

Because of the layout and formatting the book is not a very user friendly cookbook. The pictures are clustered in sections on glossy paper. They are not interspersed with the recipes. The recipes are on heavy non-glossed paper that feels like a heavy newsprint.

I did enjoy the first chapter about her quest for a lifestyle change that she could continue, not just another "diet". This has helped me to define how I want to arrange my life so I can maintain a healthy weight.

I bought this over a month ago and still have only managed to make one recipe from it that I altered to my own preferences. So I can't really comment on the taste of the recipes. But for someone who likes to alter recipes there are plenty of ideas on alterations that will spark your own creative juices.
