There once was this vampire that walked into a bar.....She said owch
As someone that is trying to get back to reading for pleasure... a few weeks ago I picked up Lamb. I was blow away by the sense of humor that Mr. Moore used to fill in the gap in the biblical tale. Well done. So... I was hungry for more. Checking the bargain listings (what can I say, I am cheap) I found
Bloodsucking
Fiends
and You Suck. I saw that they were related tales and so click click... Amazon.com sent me my next pieced of Mr. Moore.
I read it and I must say I haven't downed a book that quickly in a LONG time. I read Bloodsucking Fiends in about 4 days for me that is outstanding. It is a testiment to Mr. Moore's ability to keep the story flowing. I didn't feel like I could take a break, I didn't want to!
I love the premise, the love, the passion, the jokes... books got jokes people. It was entertaining! Books shouldn't take so much work to enjoy and Mr. Moore does an excellent job of writing a story that doesn't take so much work to get through. It is full of substance and truly a great read.
I look forward to reading the next book, You Suck, which I am sure... won't suck at all. Thank you Mr. Moore!

A hilarious book about vampires in San Francisco
This is Christopher Moore's homage to Anne Rice's vampire novels. Jody is a young woman lacking confidence and self-esteem. Suddenly turned into a vampire, she comes to enjoy being a predator. She acquires a boyfriend, Tommy, an aspiring writer from Incontinence, IN (!) recently moved to San Francisco, who is happy to be her minion, and takes care of her while she sleeps by day. He works the night shift at a local grocery chain with a group of stoners nick-named `The Animals', who use frozen turkeys to `bowl' in the stores aisles. Another memorable character is the `Emperor', a homeless man who together with his two dogs looks out for the welfare of San Francisco. Eventually, Jody, Tommy, The Animals and the Emperor must confront the old vampire who turned Jody. The book ends ambiguously paving the way for the sequel, You Suck.

Not Moore's best by a long shot
Having read and enjoyed Lamb and A Dirty Job, I was disappointed by this one. The humor was at times too obvious -- I was occasionally pulled out of the narrative with the feeling that the author was winking at his readers instead of telling a story. The plot moved along at a good clip but came to an unsatisfying, too-easy resolution. The "bad guy" was an incomplete picture, someone whose motives and goals were never clear to me. And yet, despite these complaints, it was a fun read and easy to breeze through in a short time. I laughed out loud once or twice. I'm glad I read
Bloodsucking
Fiends
, but I hope that the next Christopher Moore book I read is a better example of his work!

Kinda funny
As I was reading this, I kept thinking to myself, "Do all straight guys think like this?" I hope not. It was pretty funny, but the protagonist's viewpoints made it lose it's luster for me.
for Anne Rice fans that need a FREAKIN' SENSE OF HUMOR
This was a bit of an odd read for me. On the one hand, it's this off-kilter cliche of a love-story between a vampire and her mortal host. And on the other, it's a borderline satire of Anne Rice and Poppy Z. Brite. Moore does a few interesting things in his treatment of the genre (and the vampire mythos more generally). Entertaining (and quite amusing at moment (e.g., TURKEY BOWLING!)) and worth the read.
