This will KEEP you running
If you are serious about getting into running or back into it, BUY this book. I was a
runner
in highschool and have been an on-again, off-again runner throughout college. I was missing something to help me stick to it. This book helped me tremedously with all of the tips and training programs provided. I love the book so much I recommended it to a friend and I am going to now buy the competitive runner's
guide
. I have owned the book since January and I have been running consistantly since then, probably my longest period of consistant running since highschool. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy and good luck running!

Beginner Runner
I am a begginer
runner
and I have really enjoyed this book. I can see why it's a best seller. It has been a great place to start on my way to getting into shape. The author is very thourough in the material he covers. He is very enthusiastic about running wich inspired me to get moving.
The only book you need if you run
I started running a year ago with the hopes of running a marathon in 2006. I bought several books, but kept coming back to this one because it covers all aspects of running.
I used Glover's marathon training program and I'm proud to say I finished the Chicago Marathon a few weeks ago and recovered very well. As I trained, I noticed that I was running longer and faster and commented several times that "the training plan is working". I chose this plan because it had a long run on Saturday and nothing more than 6 miles during the week. This fit my schedule well and carried me through 26.2 in Chicago.
The book also covers nutrition, selecting shoes and clothes, running in cold and heat, stretching, and injuries. It really was a
runner
's
handbook
as it covered every aspect of running and is a great resource. The only thing I wish it had was pictures of stretches.
As my title says, it's a bible for
runners
and I highly recommend picking this up.

Good for begginers
Its a good book for those who wnt to start running, but in my oppinion I'd have more rutines.
Book is thick but does not get to the "thick" of it
after reading maybe halfway into the book I got this: start slow, warm up, slowly increase your distance, be happy. The book seems to be a motivational
guide
to people who really don't want to get off the couch or are afraid of running. The book is thick, really thick, so I do not know why it is called a
handbook
. The information contained in it is very general and I was hoping for a more clear definition, schedules, VOX tricks or whatever. No rocket science here, just common sense. This book would be good for people who have never tried to run. However, if you have ran before, even in high school, or work out or do any kinds of sports, all this should be common sense to you.
