Highly recommend to hoarders who need actual help
This is a must have for actual
help
with
hoarding
. Very practical and insightful. Discusses the why as well as very practical steps in overcoming the behaviors. It is not condescending but is also not so clinical as not to be practical. You have to actually do the work as in writing down everything it tells you write down. This is an incredibly difficult disorder to overcome but this book will surely help if you do the work. It is not easy and takes commitment and perseverance as the book reiterates. There is no book that can "cure" this but this one is worth the money to give you some help.

Life-saving book!
This book is a life-saver for those who have a REAL problem with clutter, AND for those who want to
help
someone who does. It is not just "how to clean your house." It goes into the issues of why you cannot part with stuff. It contains worksheets & self-evaluations, so it's good to have your own copy so that you can write in it. I've purchased copies for all of my family members!
Usable and helpful for hoarders AND for those living with hoarders
I found this book to be the best of it's class. Useful information and advice, including direct skills to apply immediately to the problems of
hoarding
and dealing with clutter.
Of note were the passages and sidebars addressed to those who do not themselves clutter, but must cope with the challenges of living with some who does. Tolin, Frost, and Steketee provide clear explanations and
help
ful information for family, friends, roommates, or coworkers dealing with
compulsive
savers.

Understanding How and Why
Buried
in
Treasures
is a workbook in understanding, how things got so out of control and why it's not so simple to handle. Once you can figure out your particular triggers, then they give you strategies to dig your way out and find your own goals for not falling back into the old patterns. I found it a very useful tool and would highly recommend it for others with a
hoarding
/cluttering/
acquiring
problem and for family members and friends who want to support change.
A Way To Startt
I bought a copy for my sister (the hoarder) and myself. My sister has started reading the book , I've finished it. She says it's well writen so far. I think it's made me more tolerant of her condition and lays out a clear path for her to follow.. Now, if she only ollows the steps laid out in the book and overcomes her serious problem I'll be happy. I know it will be very difficult for her and will take a lot of time. Hwoever it took her years to get to her present condition and I can't expect her to resolve them overnight. This book should
help
her to get started in the right direction.
