BOXING STORY REALLY WORTH READING

This book which starts out with an inspirational immigration story ends with the son of that immigrant realizing his dream of a world championship. The insight into the underbelly world of the mob and fight fixing was something I knew about but now can put together with names and faces. Modern day boxing is about big headed and big haired promoters and boxers who fight once a year. The Onion Picker tells of a time when fights where weekly like regular season games and title fights where like the playoffs. I have passed the book along to my father and he has told me it was the best boxing book he ever read. My wife read it and thinks it should be made into a movie. Great job done by the author.

Great Book!!

What a Great Book!!! Nobody ever had more toughness,determination and just plain Heart in the boxing ring than Carmen Basilio! Carmen was one fighter who epitomized what the boxing game was all about. Mr Youmans has blended a fantastic story of Carmen Basilio's boxing exploits along with the world of boxing promoters and business maniplators during his career. These were the days when a fighter could be fighting two or three fights a month! What a story.....and what a pleasure to read! Thank you Mr. Youmans, for bring to us readers the glory days of the 1950's middleweight division and one of the true Iron Men of the ring, Carmen Basilio.
