The Birth Book
This is the best
book
on
birth
ing I've read thus far. It puts the responsibility back in the hands of the Mother and Father. Most importantly it informs, educates, and supports women in
know
ing
you
r body is naturally made for birthing. Take control, be informed, and make your birth experience one you want and one you will cherrish forever, that is the goal of this book. I would recommend it to all women, even those on their 2nd or 3rd birth.
good book
I found this
book
to be very valuable. I
have
been trying for years to overcome a fear of
birth
, especially since getting pregnant. This book definitely helped.
I have to disagree with some of the reviews below which state that this book is anti-OB, or anti-hospital, or makes
you
feel guilty if you have a c-section. Not true. And clearly my OB feels the same way, as he recommends this book to all his patients. Many times throughout the book the authors discuss legitimate situations for c-sections- they simply say that c-sections are over-prescribed, which is true. The goal of the book, stated several times, is for the parents to look back on the birth of their child with happiness, however that happiness is achieved. Success stories involving epidurals and c-sections are included in the book.

Fantastic
My husband and I plan to use the Hypno
birth
ing method for our baby girl due Jan 2008. Since
you
can never plan your birth and everyone is different I wanted to
know
a general overview of all the other things I could encounter while in labor. This
book
is FANTASTIC. It's not negative, just the facts. I find I can't put it down. There are so many pregnancy related books out there that
have
a negative feel to them and this book isn't one of them. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I love this book.
Sound advice
I was anticipating that natural child
birth
methods would be the only method discussed in this
book
, but
have
been pleasantly surprised to learn about different pain relief options during labor and delivery. The authors lay out the pros and cons of medication, fetal monitoring, and other such "interventions" without making me feel like a bad person for possibly wanting an epidural! They discuss practical birthing positions and exercises that
you
can do pre-birth to prepare your body for the marathon of birth.
