Great read Grahame- Smith does it well

Others have tried- but Grahame-Smith does it well...this was a gluttonous read. Balls and all...

Great way to re-discover a classic; I love the new Classic/Science Fiction genre

Call it vanity, but there was no way you'd catch me reading a Jane Austen book in public or admitting I was reading one. Add the brain hungry zombies, well that's another story. It's like being caught driving your mom's pinto to the store when you should be driving Bigfoot.

I first began to enjoy this new take on a classic via audio books on a long road trip, picking it up as a fluke. I was enraptured from the start. I got about half way through, decided I wanted to read it instead of listening to someone reading it to me. The illustrations in the novel were the missing elements from the audio book that I found in the book to further my enjoyment.

Seth Grahame-Smith does a great job interjecting the blood and brains from the zombie plague into the framework of Jane Austen's classic. I read the original before, and even read about half of it again recently to see where the modern elements played in. It was almost seemless.

I must say this though, I read the prequel that was published for this recently, I felt it wasn't as strong a novel. Different author, but I think the fact that Grahame-Smith had the superb framework laid out by Jane Austen's novel made this the better of the two.

I really am enjoying this new genre of novels taking classics and adding the science fiction elements. I've read a few others in the genre, and this is the best so far for me.

Loved it!

"Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" was a nice touch of monster humor thrown into a wonderful classic. I love the original, but the zombies added something I never imagined finding in one of her books and I enjoyed the discovery. The book was great and is now making its rounds through my family.

Very, very funny

I'm just so-so on Jane Austen, but I loved this book. It's very funny and true to Ms. Austen's story line and prose. Not a particularly quick read, but very, very funny. And it will definitely make Ms. Austen more palatable for those who have trouble slogging through her witty, but somewhat wordy, novels.

Not For Purists

Not the classic retelling of Pride and Prejudice one would expect, especially given the title, this book met that expectation ten fold. The original prose interspersed with an undead sub plot and spicier behavior this is not the Bennett family you remember. I admit, it took me awhile to get into this story but once I did I found it humorous and entertaining. The absolute absurdity of the Bennett girls being ninjas, the fact that they battle zombies, and a host of other departures from the original prose turned this classic romance into an action adventure in the blink of an eye.

Clearly not a story for everyone (particularly, I imagine, Austen purists) but if you're looking for an off-beat familiar story this book just might be up your alley. Give it a try, at the very least you'll get a good chuckle at some of the odd scenarios characters find themselves in.
