THIS MOVIE IS SO CUTE!!!!!

THE FIRST TIME I SAW A SUMMER PLACE I FOUND MYSELF WISHING THAT DOROTHY MCGUIRE'S CHARACHTER AND MOLLYS DAD WOULD JUST DROP EVERYTHING AND GET BACK TOGETHER. MORALLY WRONG OF COURSE! BUT THIS MOVIE IS SO CUTE FROM THE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC TO THE OCEAN SCENERY YOU CAN ALMOST SMELL THE SALT AIR!!! THIS MOVIE IS A MUST SEE. IT TAKES THOSE OF US WHO ARE YOUNG BACK TO A TIME WE SHALL NEVER SEE, A TIME OF TRUE LOVE AND INNOCENCE. THEY JUST CANNOT MAKE FILMS LIKE THIS ONE IN OUR MODERN SOCIETY!! GIVE ME A MOVIE LIKE THIS ANY DAY COMPARED TO "MODERNIZED" FILMS!

THE ULTIMATE 1950'S SOAP OPERA

This is definitely pure 1950's and it is great campy fun! My teenage daughter roared with laughter when Sandra Dee asked Troy Donahue "Johnny have you been bad with girls". On the other hand the scenery and music are both just beautiful. Also, dealing with teenage pregnancy and letting the couple have a happy ending was really cutting edge at the time. Usually in situations like that the unwed mother had to pay the price for her "sin". My suggestion: Gather up your teenagers, pop the popcorn, put your feet up and enjoy!

WONDERFULLY FAB!!!

I loved this movie, I though it was very ahead of it's time. I saw it on the American Movie Classics channel on cable, a few years later it was on video, so I went out and bought it. I love it!!!

a classic for all time

My sister Debbie and I love this movie. Troy Donahue and Sandra Dee portray young lovers on an island during the 50's. You will get a kick out of phrases such as "I washed my hair for you" and "I like to think of this place as a perverted garden of Eden where the pines and the salt air seem to act as an aphrodesiac."

A LOOK BACK AT THE ROMANTICISM OF THE FIFTIES!!!!!!!!

The story is definitley indicative of the fifties. I thought the casting was perfect! Dorothy McGuire and Richard Egan were wonderful as reunited lovers, trying to guide their respective children into not making costly mistakes. Arthur Kennedy and Constance Ford are excellent as the unhappy spouses. The mores of that era are well portrayed throughout the film. The Hunters and the Jorgensens stay together for the sake of the children. Molly and Johnny, the teenagers, exhibit an air of innocence about their sexuality at the outset of their relationship. When all is revealed at the end, the sensible parent of each child is there to guide them with support and wisdom. Many say it is a soap opera, but it does deliver a message - parental support and how important it is!!!!!!! The music of Max Steiner is absolutely magnificent, and set against the Maine coastline, the combination of the two is unbeatable! A must see film!
