How to make an Englishman cry
Listen - I'm a guy, and I'm English. I don't show emotions much, and I never cry. I don't read much, and I have never read a book about this kind of subject before.
This book brought me to the verge of
tea
rs again and again. The story is so completely inspiring and gripping that you will be drawn into it, drawn into Greg Mortenson as he lives through this incredible series of ups and downs.
Greg is a mountaineer who turns instead to a
mission
of building
school
s in the poorest areas of rural Pakistan. The book chronicles his
man
y adventures in Pakistan, Afghanistan and America.
It will make you feel warm inside. It will take you to the edge of despair and back. It will make you angry at
time
s.
You will emerge feeling more worldly, with a newfound understanding not only of these parts of the world, but also of the war on terror and human nature.
Choose ignorance, or choose
Three
Cups
of Tea.

America's gone ugly, but there's hope...
I enjoyed this book from seeing what
one
driven person can do. I loved it for its example of crossing boundaries and honoring different cultures. I admired Greg for taking risks. I realized that we must fight terrorism with education.
All of this is wonderful, but, as a
tea
cher, I was reminded of the power and rightness of education. There are so
man
y perks and distractions in our lives (and little battles to wage) that it's remarkably refreshing to put everything aside and get back to the basics. Education is vital to existence. I'm thankful for having the image of children, under no roof or within walls of any kind, drawing in the dirt with their fingers, demonstrating in the most austere way that education matters.

Three Cups of Tea
An outstanding book of an American doing good in the world by building
school
s for girls and how important an education is for these people.
One
friend was so moved that she donated $500 to his fund.
The road to peace and goodwill is paved with mutual education.
An engaging and inspiring tale of what
one
person can accomplish in harnessing the energy and scarce resources of two diverse cultures to
promote
the education of poor children---girls as well as boys---in a remote region of the world. This type of effort is far more powerful in promoting
peace
and friendship than lobbing missiles and angry words over physical barricades or artificial geographic boundaries.

A MUST-READ FOR EVERYONE!
I loved this story and am very impressed with Greg Mortenson as a hu
man
being. He's pretty much everything I admire in a person. I loved his own personal story as well as the story of his career, and reading this book has given me the desire to do something altruistic myself (don't know what yet, but something).
I would like to say, however, that in places this book did become quite slow, and I picked it up and put it down many
time
s. Although I do not agree with some of the vitriolic comments other reviewers have made about David O. Relin's writing, I think the story could've been more "lively". I struggled over whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars, and only gave it 4 due to its message.
Oh, yeah... I've heard some negative things regarding Mortenson's atheism and the fact that he (unlike his
mission
ary parents) is not striving to "save" non-Christian souls. I think this is very wrong. His intention is to bring "basic education" to children, not to convert them to another (America's)faith! I think it is sad that this story - and this man's work -is not being appreciated by many who consider themselves to be spiritually enlightened.
