Clever
This is a very unique
book
with a very unique take on the preternatural community. It combines every type of folkloric entity you could possibly think of, but it does so with an interesting flare that is all its own. If you liked the light-hearted fun of the earlier Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series books, then you'll definitely enjoy this series!

is not a good
book
. Not by ANY stretch of the imagination. But it is fun, and lots of it.
A lot of reviewers make comparisons to Laurel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake novels, and the comparison is apt. If you liked those stories, you will surely like these.
Both author's manage to create a very real and acceptable world where Vampires are, dare I say it, common place? Both write enjoyable stories that are a fun summer read, and just a little bit sexy.
Honestly, it would be nice to see the two writers collaborate. Each writer seems to handle well what the other author finds difficult. While Harrison's characters are a bit more two-dimensional than Hamilton's, and epitomize the least imaginative and dreariest stereotypes of the genre, Harrison manages to make them behave in a way Hamilton never could. Intelligently. If you are tired of reading Hamilton praise Anita Blake for being intelligent, only to have Blake stumble stupidly to victory in every novel, give Harrison a try. Her characters, while dull in concept, are a bit more fallible, and realize it. They try to think their way through situations, and do not go in guns blazing every time.
Dead Witch Walking is essentailly an episode of Miami Vice with vampires, werewolves, and witches. There you go. That one sentance is the best review I have ever written. If you enjoy narcotics based detective stories that are silly and popcorny, and you like Vampires, than this book should be like candy to you.

Brainless Fun
It's just what I needed. A little brainless fantasy to keep my brain busy while I rested. I laughed, I rolled my eyes... I wouldn't go so far as to say that this was a genious piece of writing, or that the plot was that interesting. What I love was the masterful interaction between the characters that can take even the most epic story down. A very good piece to pass the time.
