Satisfaction;Yes and no.
While some might berate Mr. Niven's writing style and say that age has made him sloppy, after re-reading the entire back catalogue of the
Ringworld
Universe stories(!!!), I find that RWT is actually quit consistent with said Universe. Please remember that these stories encourage collaberative effort by other established authors, and (if you've every been to a SCI-FICON you'll know what I mean.) FANS. This creative/collaborative effect is even more evident when playing Chaosium's RINGWORLD ROLE PLAYING GAME (Oh gawd, not another RPG'er!) Well, that was the warm fuzzy, now for the cold prickly. However, as some other reviewers have previously noted, some promising plot elements were simply allowed to wither away and characters that I was just getting to know were never developed to my liking. In closing I would like to ask Mr. Niven to consider sanctioning other authors to "play god" on the Ringworld, much as he has done with the excellent MAN/KZIN WARS SERIES. LONG LIVE LOUIS WU!!!!

What happened in this book?
This book taught me a valuable lesson; trust the general consensus of the other Reviewers. I purchased this book despite the fact that there were soooo many negative reviews. I figured I liked the 1st 2 books so much, that I would give this one a try. The first 1/2 of the book is interesting, but doesn't really pertain to the overall story. The second half of the book stunk, and made me wonder if there really was any point to the book. I hope someone can someday pick-up the
Ringworld
concept, and run with it. There are so many interesting story lines to follow, but this book did not do that. Oh well, onto the next book.
