Levon returns to his roots and has produced a grand presentation of his style of music. Well worth buying to enjoy.

been a long time comin'

after john prine had throat cancer his voice improved in strength and range....same can be said for levon. been a long long wait...but in my opinion, well worth it.

Awesome - true, blue, real-deal American roots music

Old Timey Music renewed

Levon has gone back to the ancient roots of Dock Boggs and Roscoe Holcomb, old timers that would tell you sad stories that you know was real. He brought in tastefully done fiddles and mandolines Louisiana stomp and squeeze box and did it in a way that appeals to the masses. That is you don't feel you need to be listening to hardcore bluegrass or folk to get into this album. Not that bluegrass, and folk don't speak to the modern day, but this music somehow does so without having to feel schooled in the old ways. That was the genius of the Band and I disagree with an earlieer comment that there is little of the Band in Dirt Farmeer. There is a lot of the Band in this or shoud I say this is what the Band was reaching for in their less mainstream tracks. Anyway I think the albums falters only in its monotony. Some of the songs like Dirt Farmer, The Mountain, The Girl I left Behind is so strong that a few other cuts just don't compare. But ain't that always the way. Peace.
