ABSOLUTELY MESMERIZING - WONDERFUL ACTING

This is an absolutely wonderful film that sweeps you through four cultures and three countries. Set during and after the war, it is more than a love story.

It is so easy to get involved in the circumstances of the characters.

Two POW's of the Japanese meet during the war and reunite several years later. The different cultures make it difficult for them to get back together even after finding each other again.

Wonderful acting by Brown and Morse. Must be seen more than once.

A love story which spans three continents and four cultures

Although this is a love story there is much more to it. It takes you into other cultures and helps you to understand why the people are the way they are.

The cast is excellent, especially Brown and Morse who meet as POW's in Malaya, are separated by circumstance, and reunited several years later.

This is not your usual war love story. Although it is long, it keeps you riveted throughout every scene as it takes you from one culture to another.

The accents make it a little difficult to understand at times but that is part of it's charm.

I think it is best watched at one sitting. This is one of those movies that you should watch more than once. Very well done.

Absorbing drama, not to be missed!

An absorbing adventure, romance saga sweeping several continents and decades, reuniting lovers who first met during WWII when both were captives of the Japanese. Full of historical detail and fascinating glimpses of Malasian, Japanese and Austrialian ways of life and characters. A wonderful ending - terrific story.

It was gripping, romantic, and nostalgic.

It is one of the few movies I have seen more than once. It gives an authentic feeling of war time in the far east. It also shows post war, outback Australia as it realy was. There are many twists and turns in the story. I have seen it once a year since it aired in Australia. The country 'shut down' when it was televised. The five hours fly by.

Absorbing + Unforgetable

I had read the novel before wathing the movie, but I still wasn't quite prepared for it! It is the perfect portrayal of two very ordinary people in very unordinary situations, and while being a drama (and a very dramatic one at that!) it has it's humorous moments. Except for two or three incidents, I would recommend this movie to the entire family.
