Set sail for Italy

I'm admittedly biased: this has been my favorite film since it captured my budding romantic soul at 13 in 1963. Suzanne Pleshette is wonderful in this, her first film. Troy Donahue is great to look at albeit a terrible actor. Angie Dickinson is a treat in the film as well. This film offers old fashioned romanticism, absolutely breathtaking Italian and Swiss scenery, a hauntingly beautiful Max Steiner score, and great overall corniness. Also appearing is a very suave Rossano Brazzi, and Al Hirt is seen in a cameo role. The beautiful, haunting song "Al Di La" featured in the film had recently won the San Remo song festival, and was later recorded by Connie Francis. This film really captures early 60's American mores, and reflected a time when people often sailed, rather than flew to Europe!

Classic Warner Romace

A notch above many of the teen movies of the early 1960's. Suzanne Pleshette and Troy Donohue are the love interests. Beautifully filmed in Italy with a great Max Steiner score. The hit song AL-Di-La became a world famous song due to this 1962 film.

Great Scenery, Great Pleshette

I saw the movie while in basic training in the army. I fell in love with Suzanne and the incredibly lovely "Al Di La". Not the greatest of acting, but a wonderfully sweet theme. Probably no song more beautiful was ever used in a movie.

Will make you want to go to Italy!

It may seem mushy and corny but I enjoyed the beautiful scenery and felt like I was along for the ride.

Corny but that is the way love stories sometimes are.

I saw this movie when it first came out and love the theme and the story line. It was mushy with a touch of conflict between the Troy Donnahue and Angie Dickenson. But love triumphs in the end. Look for the candleabra that is the start.
