Warm, Endearing Characters. Heartfelt Writing.
As a mother of three children under age 5, this is the first real book I have read in years that is not a child-rearing or breastfeeding manual. It was a great escape for me to read Kate Jacobs' novel. When I was reading the novel, I was transported to another time and place, far from my newborn's cries and my two-year-old's tantrums. I fell in love with the characters, especially the single Mom who owns the yarn shop and Anita, the wise and sassy senior who is her employee and mentor. I actually felt like they became my friends, and I was a bit sad when the book ended because I didn't want to say goodbye. I am not a knitter, but I loved the way the author introuduced each chapter with a blurb on
knitting
, using simple and powerful language and metaphors that pull you into the story and compel you to keep reading. I liked the author's writing style; it was friendly, warm and inviting. I highly recommend this book. The way the author weaves the lives of the knitting group members together and creates initmate friendships is endearing and uplifting. The ending is sad, but I wouldn't change a thing. Can't wait to read her next book.

Not my favorite, but...
This book was good not great. It is an easy read so I finished pretty quickly. And it's a good thing because otherwise I would have lost interest. Georgia Walker is a great character, Anita is endearing, Cat is entertaining, and Dakota is adorable. The other main characters just got on my nerves. I heard there is a movie being made where Julia Roberts will play Georgia, and I have to say that excites me more than finishing the book. Hopefully the characters will come across better on screen. I will give Jacobs another try. I have since given this book to my Grandmother who loves it. So give it a try, just don't have many expectations.
