The End of America by Naomi Wolf

This book is a must read for anyone who is concerned with the negative direction that Bush and his cronies have taken this Country.

excellent

We've just passed this book along to our 14 year old to read also. Excellent book on what is going wrong in American politics. Our son is in a civics class this year and is learning virtually nothing of value, so we are shoring up his education and he is taking that to school with him to educate his teacher and classmates on a different outlook on American life and policies today. Highly recommended reading for anyone who cares about the future of life on this planet.

The Most Important Book You'll Ever Read

Naomi Wolf has written a brilliant book that is absolutely terrifying.

This is a nonpartisan cry against the forces of tyranny that have been gathering in the US for some time. Please, please buy this book or take it out of the library--the future it describes is very probable and is Orwell's vision of "a boot standing on a human face forever."

Liberty is the only American value; it is secured by government nonaggression against our natural rights. Those rights have been abrogated and whittled away by government--and it's not going to get better unless you fight back with the pen and the voice and the march and the lawsuit.

Informative

I would not advise reading this book before bed as it is bound to make you angry.
Repetitive at times but facts are there. I did not hang on to this book, rather, I passed it on as everyone should read it!

Disingenuous and misguided in spots, but generally correct

While I am not prone to reading anything written by someone with a "feminist" bent, let alone one that is recognized and published, the title and main tenet of this book intrigued me.

On the positive side, I agree that our representative democracy is difficulty (perhaps even crisis) and that we should each be far more involved in politics than we are. In addition, I share Ms. Wolf's belief that there should be no career politicians, as the Founding Fathers intended.

On the negative side, Ms. Wolf wastes an incredibly powerful opportunity to lay out all the facts, over 225 years of independence, and truly display that our country society has slid downward, almost from the first day, where personal freedoms are concerned. Instead, Ms. Wolf chooses to make this a book about George W. Bush and his administrations perceived failings in the face of new threats. Instead of covering rather major erosions of personal and state freedom throughout our history (think A. Lincoln with the Civil War, or Johnson with public schooling/forced governmental indoctrination, or the Prohibition with alcohol and gun laws, or Roosevelt with the abolition of the gold standard and the first federal deficits)... Ms. Wolf chose instead to focus only on the most recent of these intrusions into our freedoms with the Bush administration. An opportunity and skill such as hers is wholly wasted with a trite and incomplete assertion and a truth that could have been so well revealed rings hollow instead.

A lost opportunity for a truly great patriotic writing. With a balanced and complete look at all 225 years of our history, Ms. Wolf could have written the next "Rights of Man", or Federalist Papers... instead, the result is a book with an impetuous, "I really really really hate George W, Bush", message ends with a foot stomp, and not a resounding ring of truth.
