You will like this!
I had purchased an abundance of the "Favorites" collection and some were better than others. This CD is at the top of them all. They may be short, but not that short. Wondrous music. I can almost guarantee that you will like this music. Well worth the price!

Another great Bernstein
I love Bernstein. Both the Mussorgsky's Pictures at Exhibition and A nigth in the Bald Mountain are masterpieces, and so is Ravel's orchestration of the pictures. I think Bernstein's direction excellent, so beautiful as, for instance, that (famous) by Toscanini.

If only we had more "tyrants" like this one.
The only comparable orchestra to Reiner's late fifties Chicago Leviathan was another Midwestern ensemble a few hundred miles to the east in Cleveland (also commanded by an expatriate Hungarian Jewish maestro). It's a toss up over which orchestra was better, but this ...

Great Sound Quality; Great Value
The 24-bit remastering of these analog recordings from the 1950s and 60s is outstanding. Both disks are chock-full at almost 80 minutes each, and there are a good many songs you don't hear every day. Forty of the 41 tracks are solos, while a short Rodrigo orchestral ...

Wow!
How can something older than me sound so good? The recording is top notch. Dont be fooled into thinking it is "just stereo", the ambience of symphony hall comes thru as though it were recorded in surround. Exquisite detail and perfect tempo. Timpani has realistic ...

Masterful!
This two CD set is magnificent. I got the set in the early 1990's when it was advertised on television, along with other releases in Time Life's set. I was struck by the interpretations of the conductors. Whenever I hear these pieces now, I judge them against this ...

A must for anyone wanting the staples of classical music
In my years of experience teaching Fine Arts to high school students, I know that the majority, if not all, of the music included on this album is commonly used in collge music appreciation courses. This is an excellent sample of truly all the "greatest hits" of ...

"The Sage" is Lake's best
I can't disagree more with the reviewer below regarding the insertion of ELP's own pictures into this gallery. Wanna get rid of "Nutrocker" while we're at it? I've never heard a fan upbraid this band for not sticking with Mussorgsky to the exclusion of "The Sage," "The ...

Simply Wonderful!
I would like to begin my review of this wonderful CD by stating that I am not a "kid." (unless you consider a 14-year-old to still be a child) I am, however, too lazy too start a new Amazon.com account before typing about this great CD. Now then... In my eyes, this ...

The Mightiest of the Handful!
I'll not repeat any of the high-brow aspects that all the other reviewers have written. Good on 'em, I say! I first heard this piece as a young musician. It has been a favorite all my life. Pictures at an Exhibition, even after Rimsky-Korsakov re-arranged it, is ...
