Superb
I only heard the Gershwin and Bernstein Suites. I was so taken with the extraordinary / superb arrangements, that surpass even the original scores, that I confidently feel, both composers would second me and aplaud these Eroica Trio renditions as well.

pure genius
No instrument asks more from the soul of an artist as the cello does. Yo Yo Ma shows to be master of the instrument and his interpretations en technique are pure genius. Everyone should have this album in his (or hers of course) basic classical collection

Bluegrass Meets Mozart
This wonderful CD is an honest attempt to marry American bluegrass idom to classical music forms. The result manages to be both toe-tapping and extraordinarily rich; maybe Dvorak would have joined in with O'Connor if he were alive today and came back to Iowa. I can't ...

Mary Fahl CD-The Other Side of Time
Mary Fahl's voice gets better with time no matter what side of time she's on. I've been a fan since her arrival with the group "October Project." Her lyric s are thoughtful and her alto voice, hauntingly beautiful.

Welcome to "alternative" classical music!
It's wonderful to hear three such talented musicians put together a collection of non-classical music on revered instruments. This is not "The Yo-yo Ma Show" with two other guys! The music is varied but the performances are great and -- in some cases, e.g. Appalachia ...

Outstanding
I had seen this program on PBS and wanted the CD. Wonderful selection of music and Renee Fleming's outstanding voice.

Exquisitely good music!
Didn't expect an outstanding cd, don't know exactly why i got it,maybe because of yo yo and bela, but every piece is played beautifully, even the vocal piece by James Taylor. The album is almost too good to be called Heartland, every piece is a class act. Bravo!

Expansive Americana
Mark O'Connor has become quite the composer in recent years. Known very well among the Nashville session musician circle as one of the great fiddle players of all times (his fiddle work is featured on the landmark 1987 TRIO album by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and ...

Awesome
While most people on this site see the "classic" in the title of the album as referring to classical music only, they are mistaken. Classic Yo-Yo refers to his style, not the genre into which his music choices fall. The list of tracks alone should have been a big ...

This man just goes from strength to strength.
In a relatively short period of time, I've managed to very nearly become a Mark O'Connor "compleatist," grabbing up virtually everything he's released on disc. This new release - "The American Seasons" - goes to the top of my O'Connor short list, along with "Heroes" ...

It's All About Sound, Isn't It?
It's extraordinarily hard to comprehend what other people "hear" when they listen to music, or to guess what they expect to hear when they listen to new music. The reviews of this CD are dramatically polarized and confrontational. Okay, I should have expected as much, ...

the word 'incredible' doesn't do this CD justice
Very simply said, "stellar work". The improvisational style of this genre of music is right down these guys' alley. Precision is second nature to these guys, too. Also, if you ever get the chance to see the "Hot Swing Trio" live, GO SEE THEM! I could sit and listen to ...
Mark O'Connor: Folk Mass

Mark O'Connor creates a choral CD masterpiece with his compositions Folk Mass and Let Us Move , sung by one of the great virtuoso church choirs in the world. Folk Mass , featuring the acclaimed Massachusetts-based Gloriæ Dei Cantores vocal ensemble, comprises the choral works to date of one of America's most gifted composers and musicians. ...

Great Performance
They say you can't judge a book by its cover. I guess the same applies to videos. I didn't buy this video for a long time because the cover looked lame with the musicians outdoors. But the production here is first rate. Several professional camera shots are used ...
