Definitive Recordings of Copland's Popular Ballet Scores From Bernstein, NYPO
Without question, this splendid CD is my favorite recording of some of Aaron Copland's most popular orchestral ballet scores. In Leonard Bernstein he had both a good friend and a devout ally, who successfully championed Copland's music, helping to ensure his reputation ...

A strong version of Copland 's work
This CD contains three of Aaron Copland's more popular works: "Fanfare for the Common Man"; "Rodeo," and "Appalachian Spring." Louis Lane conducts the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and they play Copland's works well. A few brief comments about each. "Fanfare for the ...

Awesome
Every once in a while, after sorting through the seemingly endless piles of contemporary American composers, you find a new composer that restores your faith in American music, which often seems to be a lost cause. This cd is one of those. Theofanidis comes forth as ...

yonder greatness
This is my 3rd Yonder album. Possibly my favorite. I have two live tracks, this and the third. Both are amazing but i believe i am enjoying this cd more because of the wide range of cover songs as well as their own music. I would recommend this cd to any bluegrass fan ...

Long-Time Favorite
When I was in the fifth grade, there was a district-wide competition called music memory, and one of the pieces I had to memorize for the competition was the last movement of Appalachian Spring. And I fell in love with that song. I went and bought the cassette of ...

Exquisitely good music!
Didn't expect an outstanding cd, don't know exactly why i got it,maybe because of yo yo and bela, but every piece is played beautifully, even the vocal piece by James Taylor. The album is almost too good to be called Heartland, every piece is a class act. Bravo!

Brings Back Memories to the Old (and Young)!
'Good For What Ails You' is a great set of cd's with old songs that were sung at old medicine shows. I remember some of those songs from records and radio programs from my childhood - songs that I had totally forgotten! I lent the cd's to my father, and they ...

You Ain't Talkin' to Me: Charlie Poole and the Roots of Country Music
Charlie Poole
Sony, 2005
BAD BOY, FIRST-BORN, OF COUNTRY MUSIC
We're not talking "Dueling Banjos" here - and at times the music seems thin to the modern ear. But listen a while -- the early days of country, of minstrel singing, even the occasional awful vaudeville joke is front and center. Very early records have been ...

Best Collection of Aaron Copland
Aaron Copland is for me one of three of America's greatest composers of the 20th Century. Bernard Herrmann and Jerome Moross are the other two. Aaron Copland would have been 100 years old on November 14, 2000. In reflection I turn back to my first Copland album, ...

Adagios may be slower pieces, but this CD is definitely not simple background music. The tenderness of the Gershwin "Lullaby" and Barber's haunting "Adagio" demand your attention. This is music that soars and takes the listener along.
