Life of Pi: Deluxe Illustrated Edition Yann Martel
Harcourt, 2007
A Mirror Held Up to the Reader Life of Pi was a fairly engaging story in terms of plot and character, but what made it such a memorable book, for me at least, was its thematic concerns. Basically, this is one of the most thematically interesting and thought-provoking books I've read in a while. Is ...

Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association American Psychological Association
American Psychological Association (APA), 2001
APA Publication Manual is the Best! There's no way I could be getting through grad school without this manual. I highly recommend this to anyone who is in college. It's straight forward and easy to use. The best section starts on page 306 and has a full-blown APA paper sample for reference. It's great!

Freakonomics [Revised and Expanded]: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything Stephen J. Dubner
William Morrow, 2006
Freakonomics vs. Cliff Notes What do Cliffs Notes and Spark Notes have in common with the book Freakonomics? Both do an unbelievable job of making the complicated and mundane appear accessible and understandable. Those who feel apprehensive and gain a sense of anxiety at the utterance of the words ...

Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions Dan Ariely
HarperCollins, 2008
Enlightening as well as entertaining Some books are engaging, easy to read and understand; others contain solid and rigorous empirical thinking. Often the most entertaining books contain dubious content and many with the best content can be deadly dense and boring. But a few books are both engaging and ...

Insightful and visionary for our futures in business... I read this title by Dan Pink after discovering "The Adventures of Johnny Bunko". Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness Richard H. Thaler, Cass R. Sunstein
Yale University Press, 2008
Something new under the sun... Thaler and Sunstein pulled off something fairly rare and valuable in this book; they offered up a social/political idea that isn't currently being offered up by either the Republicans or the Democrats, but is still politically viable for either party. That's a good ...

Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain Oliver Sacks
Knopf, 2007
another excellent book by Sacks I have always liked Oliver Sacks' writing. His mix of clinical
observation, erudite philosphical musings, combined with the
deep empathy for the patients he describes is unique. However,
this book is quite different from his previous offerings since he
chooses a ...

Sway: The Irresistible Pull of Irrational Behavior Ori Brafman, Rom Brafman
Doubleday Business, 2008
A self-help book hiding within a scientific treatise What a great read! Well organized and smartly written, this exploration of the reasons behind irrational behavior is a real page turner. Oddly, reading it makes you feel good, as learning the reasons why people behave illogically makes you feel more in control.
