A Student's Guide to Maxwell's Equations
Daniel Fleisch
Cambridge University Press
, 2008
Doesn't get any better than this!
I've studied quite a few textbooks (Jackson, Griffith, etc) and supplementary material ("Div, Grad, Curl,...", Feynman Lectures, etc) on classical electromagnetism over the years and I can say without a doubt that for clarity and explanatory power, this book is in a ...
Evolutionary Dynamics: Exploring the Equations of Life
Martin A. Nowak
Belknap Press
, 2006
Exquisite in Every Respect, Two-Fifths Equations & Charts
I don't do math, so I must disclose right away that the math was lost on me, except in the context of this equisitely presented book, I am compelled to recognize that mathematics as well as computation science is going to be a major player is the EarthGame, in ...
Partial Differential Equations for Scientists and Engineers (Dover Books on Advanced Mathematics)
Stanley J. Farlow
Dover Publications
, 1993
Wanna teach yourself PDE's?
If you want to teach yourself PDE's, then this is certainly a great, and affordable book to get started with. As other reviewers have said, the book could certainly go into more depth, but there is no one book that can completely teach you one subject. My advice ...
Algebra 1 (Applications, Equations, & Graphs)

McDougal Littell
, 2004
BEST BOOK EVER
Don't listen to what the other people are saying. I got first hand experience on this book. I must say that this is probably the best and most easy to understand math book i have ever used. The answer key in the back allows the user to assure that their answers are ...
Schaum's Outline of Differential Equations, 3rd edition (Schaum's Outlines)
Richard Bronson
,
Gabriel Costa
McGraw-Hill
, 2006
Really helpful for differential equation classes...
Used it to help me through 2 of my college classes...both of which I received A's. Definitely a great tool to overcome difficulty with ordinary and complex differential equation problems.
Equations Inequalities and Vics GMAT Preparation Guide (Manhattan GMAT Preparation Guides)
Manhattan GMAT Prep
MG Prep, Inc.
, 2007
A good refresher
Quantitative section on the GMAT can be a little tricky, even if you were pretty good at Math in your high school or in college. Why? Because the skills tested on the GMAT are different than the one you acquired in high school or college. I am an engineering major ...
Ordinary Differential Equations
Morris Tenenbaum
,
Harry Pollard
Dover Publications
, 1985
If only I had this book twenty years ago ...
I feel compelled to write a review even though many others have already written in praise of this book. The ultimate accolade: If only I had this book when I was an undergrad taking differential equations, man I would have been the star student! In a misguided quest ...
Vectors, Tensors and the Basic Equations of Fluid Mechanics (Dover Books on Engineering)
Rutherford Aris
Dover Publications
, 1990
Very complete introduction to tensor analysis in 3 dimensions.
This would make a good introduction to tensors for physics students (e.g. for General Relativity), though the approach is a completely classical, using index notation; you won't find anything on manifolds or differential forms here. An interesting feature is an ...
Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems , 8th Edition, with ODE Architect CD
William E. Boyce
,
Richard C. DiPrima
Wiley
, 2004
Differential Equations With Applications
This book is a good book to introduce students to differential equations with applications. It also has a solutions manual so that students can check to see if their answers are correct. It may not be the perfect book, but overall it's a good book. I would actually ...
E=mc2: A Biography of the World's Most Famous Equation
David Bodanis

Amazing story of the discovery and then application of the most powerful equation the world has known. Beautifully written by David Bodanis the book provides very good scientific understanding to the educated layman but also presents in a way that makes it difficult ...
Partial Differential Equations, Student Solutions Manual: An Introduction
Walter A. Strauss
Wiley
, 2008
Our understanding of the fundamental processes of the natural world is based to a large extent on partial differential equations (PDEs). The second edition of Partial Differential Equations provides an introduction to the basic properties of PDEs and the ideas and techniques that have proven useful in analyzing them. It provides the student a ...
Equal Shmequal (Math Adventures)
Virginia L. Kroll
Charlesbridge Publishing

Wonderful book!
This is a great way to explain the concept of equality to young children. It is entertaining and informative. It should be part of the library in all K-3 classes.
Student Solutions Manual to accompany Boyce Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems
Charles W. Haines
,
William E. Boyce
, ...
Wiley
, 2004
Not thrilled....
This solutions manual hasn't really helped me. A lof of the times the authors just leave the problem unsolved and describe how you would solve it. Whats the point of a solutions manual that doesn't give you the solution?
Geek Logik: 50 Foolproof Equations for Everyday Life
Garth Sundem
Workman Publishing Company
, 2006
Fun gift for the math geek in your life
Very witty/fun book. Geve this to my husband, who's a senior level statistical analyst, and he took it to work and had a ball with it. The other analysts were asking to borrow it over the weekend.
Schaum's Outline of Partial Differential Equations (Schaum's)
