The Book That Changed My Life Forever
When I was just a seventeen-year-old teenager, the boss at my summer job gave me Animal Liberation to read because he didn't have the heart to throw a book out. He said PETA sent it to him because of his large donation. He wasn't a vegetarian but he did have a soft ...

Bioethics, for genreal interest and further study.

Practical Ethics
Peter Singer
Cambridge University Press
, 1999
Controversial and Compelling
Those who come to Singer's book expecting to be applauded for their preconceived notions of right and wrong may be disappointed. Singer's book is actually one long argument for his particular brand of consequentialist ethics, and it leaves aside any mollifying ...

Worth your time.
I've read the pro's and con's of other reviews and would like to have a brief word with those considering this book as a future purchase. Looking at the good reviews, one I could easily give becuase I find them very agreeable, one finds the essence of the book, a ...

Writings on an Ethical Life
Peter Singer
Harper Perennial
, 2001
Uncomfortable reading
Singer writes about many subjects which are potentially disturbing to a complacent, wealthy American (such as myself). I found the essays to be a salutary reminder of my effect on the larger world, and refreshingly down-to-earth. These are not academic essays, but ...
A Companion to Ethics (Blackwell Companions to Philosophy)
Wiley-Blackwell
, 1993
My review is a single-sentence one.
The selection of the articles in this book is excellent: not too deep in any of the subjects and gives a wide range overlook on the field of ethics, I read it with eas and joy.

Well done
I ordered this textbook for an organismal biology class last semester. This book is very well put together, easy to use, and beautifully illustrated. It is not as in depth as I would have liked, being a biology nut, but it is a fantastic introductory text.
Hegel: A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions)
Peter Singer
Oxford University Press, USA
, 2001
Excellent
Probably not very many people will plunge into Hegel on their own, and most of those will quickly plunge back out. As Bryan Magee said, "His writing is almost uniquely obscure -- it positively repels the reader...One can read page after page of Hegel, racking one's ...
Ethics (Oxford Readers)

Great anthology
Apart from being a fine philosopher, Singer is also an excellent editor. I have been using this anthology for years in ethics classes and students like it very much. The selections are short and to the point. There are selections from all historical periods covering ...
