Chomsky and His Critics (Philosophers and their Critics)

not at all bad
If you're interested in what other philosophers, and linguists have to say about chomsky check this book out. It's fairly complex, so I wouldn't recommend it for newer students that are unfarmiliar with his work. The chapter by Strawson I particularly enjoyed.
Logic as Grammar: An Approach to Meaning in Natural Language
Norbert Hornstein
The MIT Press
, 1986
How is the meaning of natural language interpreted? Taking as its point of departure the logical problem of natural language acquisition, this book elaborates a theory of meaning based on syntactical rather than semantical processes. Hornstein argues that the traditional neoFregean approach taken by Davidson, Barwise and Perry, and Montague, among ...
As Time Goes By: Tense and Universal Grammar
Norbert Hornstein
The MIT Press
, 1993
How do humans acquire, at a very early age and from fragmentary and haphazard data, the complex patterns of their native language? This is the logical problem of language acquisition, and it is the question that directs the search for an innate universal grammar. As Time Goes By extends the search by proposing a theory of natural-language tense ...
Rules and Representations (Columbia Classics in Philosophy)
Noam Chomsky
Columbia University Press
, 2005
Excellent Overview
This book is an excellent overview of Chomsky's Linguistics. Perfect for people who are interested in such issues as Generative Grammar and the biological basis of langauge. It is not as technical as Chomsky's other linguistics books, which makes it an excellent ...
Working Minimalism (Current Studies in Linguistics)
The MIT Press
, 1999
The essays in this book present explicit syntactic analyses that adhere to programmatic minimalist guidelines. Thus they show how the guiding ideas of minimalism can shape the construction of a new, more explanatory theory of the syntactic component of the human language faculty. Contributors : Zeljko Boskovic, Samuel David Epstein, Robert ...
Understanding Minimalism (Cambridge Textbooks in Linguistics)
Norbert Hornstein,
Jairo Nunes

Cambridge University Press

Comprehensive
This book is thorough in covering Minimalism. I recommend it to those who have had a complete Introduction to Syntax. The book lacks detailed illustrations that would make it more accessible.
Logical Form: From GB to Minimalism (Generative Syntax)
Norbert Hornstein
Wiley-Blackwell
, 1995
This book critically reviews grammatical research into logical form over the past 20 years and reconsiders some of its major themes in the light of recent theoretical innovations. In the late 1970s generative grammarians proposed the existence of an abstract syntactic level of grammatical representation derived from surface structure which was ...
Move! A Minimalist Theory of Construal (Generative Syntax)
Norbert Hornstein
Wiley-Blackwell
, 2000
Move! A Minimalist Theory of Construal provides an accessible, in-depth and empirically oriented look at Chomsky's Minimalist Program.
Verb Movement
Cambridge University Press
, 1994
Work on the movement of phrase categories, mostly Noun Phrases, has been a central element of syntactic theorizing almost since the earliest work on generative grammar. Work on the movement of lexical elements, heads, has been much less central until recent years. Verb movement is now, however, the center of current research in syntax. Parallel ...
